Advanced VMware vCenterâ„¢ Configuration Manager Workshop has four modules:

Module 400: Configuration Manager Administration
Module 500: Advanced SQL for Configuration Manager
Module 501: SQL Server Reporting Services for Configuration Manager
Module 502: Remote Command Scripting
 
 

Compétences acquises
  The overall objective of this workshop is to provide students with a strong understanding of VMware vCenter Configuration Manager administration and the SQL Server Engine that drives VCM, and how to customize VCM with their own SSRS reports and remote commands.

  This course is intended for system administrators who have VCM installed and want to learn more about the internal structure of VCM, how to properly create and import custom SSRS reports into VCM, and how to create valid remote commands to perform tasks with VCM.

Préalables
  None. Completion of Introduction to VMware vCenter Configuration Manager Workshop is helpful, but not required.

Hands-On Lab
  The VMware® virtual datacenter (VDC) is used for all hands-on activities. Internet access is essential. For online classes, each student must have a computer system with high-speed Internet access. RDP is used to access the VMware lab systems. For onsite classes, each student must have a computer system and high-speed Internet access.

Day 1
Module 400: Configuration Manager Administration
  • Modify settings as required to optimize students’ own VCM installations
  • Create new filters and filter sets to collect custom data
  • Understand the difference between a filter set and a filter set group
  • Create automatic discovery rules of all types
  • Manually add machines to the database
  • Create alternative sources to deploy agents
  • License machines and install agents
  • Understand the difference between machines in available status and in Ignored status
  • Create machine snapshots
  • Create static and dynamic machine groups
  • Create VCM access rules and roles to restrict access and functionality
  • Add users and assign roles
  • Create scheduled jobs for collections, reports, and compliance
  • Be able to evaluate job history and interpret problem areas
  • Create alert rules and assign them appropriately to machine groups
Day 2
Module 500: SQL Server Administration and Programming
  • Be able to use SQL Server 2005 tools and administer SQL Server 2005 for optimal performance by VCM
  • Understand the VCM database structures and critical background jobs
  • Understand the VCM database schema and naming conventions
  • Understand the SQL SELECT statement with regard to creating reports in VCM and in SSRS
 
Day 3 morning
Module 501: SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Understand how to create an SSRS data source compatible with VCM
  • Understand how to create data sets for SSRS
  • Be able to create an SSRS report with the SSRS wizard
  • Be able to create an SSRS report from scratch
  • Be able to modify SSRS reports
  • Be able to import a created report into VCM
  • Be able to look at and modify reports provided by VCM
Day 3 afternoon
Module 502: Remote Commands
  • Be able to create a remote command to run scripts that: Run a program; Run a command; Run a BAT or CMD file; Run an MSI file
