The Solaris 9 System Administration Fast Track Training Program I (non-inclusive) course provides students with a 12 hour-per-day immersion course. Through a combination of lab exercises and topnotch presentations, students will be immersed in the world of Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) administration and be prepared to take the Sun Certified Administration for Solaris platform exam. The program is an accelerated course that provides experienced system administrators with the necessary skills to successfully administer Sun Microsystems Solaris OS-based desktop and server systems. Live, breathe, eat, drink, Solaris OS administration for one week. Receive vouchers for Sun Certified Administrator for Solaris platform exam (a $300 value). The boot camp is held in a Sun training center. Your registration includes five 12-hour days of Sun-Certified topnotch instruction, courseware, and continental breakfast.

  • Learn the core competencies of Solaris OS system administration

  • Install and configure a Solaris OS workstation

  • Understand and perform booting and shutdown procedures

  • Correctly install and back out packages on the system

  • Correctly install and back out patches on the system

  • Add users to the system using both a graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line methods

  • Properly set file permissions using access control lists (ACLs)

  • Learn to identify, partition, mount, and maintain Solaris OS file systems

  • Understand and configure system logging with syslog

  • Configure NFS to support the client-server environment

  • Understand Basic Naming Services including Network Information Service (NIS), Network Information Service Plus (NIS+), Domain Name System (DNS), and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)

  • Configure DNS and LDAP clients

  • Use the JumpStart software to automate Solaris OS installation

  • Use the Flash archive utility

  • Perform Smartcard administration

  • Configure basic network interfaces

  • Administer core file and core dump configurations

  • Configure Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

  General UNIX system administrators managing heterogeneous environments (HPUX, AIX, DG-UX, Linux, Solaris OS, and so on) who have at least six months UNIX system administration experience, system administrators, network administrators, storage administrators, system engineers, and field engineers.
