This course teaches the fundamentals of JCL coding, and uses a variety of popular utility programs to illustrate the concepts and also to allow students to practice coding JCL in the workshops. Typical utility programs are used throughout the course to show how JCL is used in different situations. These utilities include: IEBGENER, SORT, IDCAMS, and IEFBR14. Diagnose and correct JCL errors and read the JES JOB LOG.

Compétences acquises
  After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
 

  • Code job streams, containing JCL and JES statements, to execute programs and invoke procedures.

  • Write JCL and control statements to execute utilities typically used by programmers, such as SORT, IEBGENER, IEFBR14, and IDCAMS.

  • Conditionally execute job steps using IF or COND

 

  • Use SET and symbolic parameters to create and use variable values in your JCL.

  • Troubleshoot some common abends and coding errors.
