This five day instructor-led course provides a detailed examination of the Hitachi Universal Replicator software for mainframes and its installation on Hitachi Universal Storage Platform™, Universal Storage Platform V, and Universal Storage Platform VM storage systems. The course presents the key features and benefits of the Universal Replicator software, along with the hardware and software specifications and components required to support and implement Universal Replicator in an IBM® z/OS® environment. Universal Replicator software performance factors are examined, along with the architecture of data replication and journaling.

The operational procedures include the use of Hitachi Storage Navigator program and Hitachi Business Continuity Manager software to perform data replication in a z/OS environment. In addition, 4x4 Extended Consistency Grouping, Three Data Center (3DC) cascade and multi-target operations, 3DC Delta Resynchronization, and the
disaster recovery features of Universal Replicator software and Business Continuity Manager are discussed.
The course includes hands-on lab activities that support the operational tasks.

  • Identify and issue Universal Replicator software commands on Storage Navigator and Business Continuity Manager v6.1

 

  • Perform data replication and recovery with Universal Replicator software

  • Describe Extended Consistency Groups

  • Describe and implement 3DC configurations

  • Describe and configure 3DC Multi-target Delta Resynchronization

  • Describe Universal Replicator software best practice techniques for disaster recovery in 2DC and 3DC environments

  • Describe the advantages of using ShadowImage Replication At Time Split function with Universal Replicator to reduce vulnerability of replicated data.

  • Identify supported topologies for wide area network (WAN) integration of Hitachi Fibre Channel replication links and identify long distance transport technologies

  • Describe how Hitachi Replication Manager v6.1 software operates in a mainframe environment
